Over the last six months you’ve seen us introduce several new beers to the Stony Creek Brewery selection of beers, but there is one “family” of beers that is quite special to us.
Now, in life, we all have our moments, good and bad. And occasionally the best of us can get a bit Cranky. Now and again we just need something to snap us out of our funk.
Our Cranky Series of IPAs is just the tonic for whatever Cranky Condition you may find yourself in.
We launched this brewery with our Flagship Cranky IPA, an American Style India Pale Ale. Cranky has assertive hop character that is enhanced by a smooth malt backbone. He’s the definition of Aggressively Laid Back. Bold, yet steady and smooth. He showcases citrus and tropical fruit hops balanced by notes of black pepper and pine. At 6.8% ABV and 68 IBUs this IPA is cranky enough to satisfy your bitterest of dispositions.
In May, we released Cranky’s trouble making younger brother, Little Cranky, into the wild. Little Cranky bewilders you with his brash and cheeky personality, then sooths you with his clean and refreshing finish. Aggressive, yet crafted to go down super easily, this Session IPA has it all. Lemon Drop and Bravo hops lend a fruity hop complexity with Lemon and Orange highlights. At 4.5% ABV and 50 IBUs this low ABV Session beer is just a little bit cranky.
As we near the end of summer, we are ready to expose you to the eldest member of the Cranky Family. It also happens to be the beer that provided the name to this series. Meet Big Cranky, our American Double IPA. Big cranky gets its name from the Great Blue Heron (our company mascot). Sharp features and streaks of black above its eyes give the Great Blue Heron a scowl. That’s one of the reasons it is sometimes called Big Cranky. Beautiful to behold, graceful in flight, yet aggressive and grouchy. This is our Big Cranky, a bold West Coast Double IPA. 7 different hops contribute complex and juicy hop character. Its dry finish allows the hops to stand out. At 9.5% ABV and 95 IBUs, while remarkably cranky, this beer is extraordinarily drinkable.
So there we have it…The Cranky Family of beers. Aggressively Laid Back IPAs that can sooth your crankiest moments, no matter how extreme. It’s time to embrace the Cranky.
