This weeks edition of Acoustic Wednesday has been moved to Thursday night allowing us to welcome up back our good friend Cal Kehoe!
“It’s all about connecting with the audience to the point where they’re having as much fun listening and dancing to the music as I am playing it.”
Cal has developed a solid reputation as one of the brightest new “Jam/Rock” artists among today’s guitar players, songwriters and live performers. With his band or his live looping solo act, Cal’s shows have something for everyone. Cal’s original music reminds listeners of a blend of Phish, My Morning Jacket, Pearl Jam & the Red Hot Chili Peppers.
In the Studio:
In between a rigorous show schedule during 2016-2017, he began work on his second EP, which includes songs from a collaboration with Tom Marshall (Lyricist of Phish, Under the Scales Podcast) and Anthony Krizan (Spin Doctors, Lenny Kravitz). Most recently Cal has worked with Greg Giorgio (The National, Trey Anastasio, Kurt Vile, etc.) at Tarquin Studios in Bridgeport, CT and Sonic Boom Studios in Raritan, NJ. His first EP, “Batting Practice” was produced in part by Grammy Award Winner, Paul Nelson of “The Johnny Winter Band” and Ethan Isaac of the Factory Underground and “Edisun”.
On The Stage:
His “live looping” styles have drawn comparisons to Andrew Bird, Ed Sheeran, Tune Yards, and Keller Williams. He brings his own distinct, unique style and interpretation to the stage, making it look easy using looping techniques developed over years of study and practice. His performances are a blend of original music and interpretations of some of the greatest music of our times spanning a vast array of artists from The Grateful Dead to The Allman Brothers Band, Marvin Gaye to Michael Jackson, Gary Clark Jr. to John Mayer. He has been touring the Greater New England area performing for Live Nation VIP, House of Blues Foundation Rooms, Webster Hall, The Iridium Jazz Club, Daryl’s House and multiple local clubs and venues.
Through Live Nation and House of Blues*, Cal has performed on side stage events for the likes of Sting, Bob Dylan, Wilco, My Morning Jacket, John Mayer, The Allman Brothers Band, Zac Brown Band, Dave Matthews Band, Steely Dan, Steve Winwood, Punch Brothers, G. Love & Special Sauce, Citizen Cope, and Green Day. In 2013-2016 he averaged more than 175 shows a year. In the first half of 2017 he has crossed the 100 mark and has become a sought after performer in both the public and private performance markets.
*A Resident musician since 2012
